Our technology: infrastructure

This page provides a brief description of the dedicated infrastructure of XNAT virtual machines at ICR and RM used to implement the Repository. For any additional questions, please get in touch with James ([email protected]) who can give further details.

Different studies require that the data have different levels of visibility and potentially entail different degrees of anonymisation and curation. Our Virtual Machines (VMs) and corresponding XNAT instances are configured to provide segregation of data according to the model on the left.

Tiers 1a and 1b lie within the RM jurisdiction and are implemented using two security-hardened Ubuntu VMs deployed within RM’s Azure tenancy.

Tiers 0 and 2 to 5 are deployed on security-hardened Ubuntu VMs, managed by a vSphere hypervisor, deployed on Dell PowerEdge physical hosts. XNAT’s archive data are stored on an iSCSI storage array, with backups to ICR’s Research Data Storage (RDS) platform.
